Flat sofa? Pancake seat cushions? If your furniture looks deflated but the frame is still solid — you just need new foam, not a new sofa. The cushion collapse is 5-8 years. The frame lasts 20-40. Pricing varies by project.
We cut foam to custom dimensions for every project. No off-the-shelf inserts. We use high-density furniture-grade foam (2.0 lb/ft3 minimum for seat cushions, higher for heavy-use pieces), Dacron polyester wrap for shape, and proper fill layering so the cushion sits right from day one and holds its shape for years.
We also sew custom slipcovers in-house — measured, cut, and fitted to your specific piece.

FOAM GRADES — WHAT THEY ACTUALLY MEAN
Foam quality is measured by density (weight per cubic foot). Here is what each grade is and is not:
- 1.5 lb/ft3 (Economy) — Budget foam found in mass-produced furniture. Feels fine for 6-12 months, then compresses permanently. We do not use this grade.
- 1.8 lb/ft3 (Standard) — Adequate for back cushions and light-use seats. 3-5 year lifespan under normal use.
- 2.0 lb/ft3 (High Density) — Our minimum for seat cushions. Firm initial feel that softens slightly with break-in. 7-10 year lifespan. Best balance of comfort and durability.
- 2.5 lb/ft3 (Premium) — Heavy-use applications: family room sofas, commercial seating. Very firm initial feel. 10+ year lifespan.
- Latex Foam — Natural or blended. Excellent resilience, hypoallergenic. Premium option for clients who want the best available.
- Memory Foam — We use this selectively for specific comfort needs. Not recommended for primary seat cushions (too soft, retains heat).
- Down/Feather Wrap — Luxury option over a foam core. Gives a soft, “sink-in” feel while maintaining structural support from the foam beneath.
We do not use cheap foam. The density of the foam is the single biggest factor in how long your cushions hold their shape. It is worth getting right.
CUSTOM SLIPCOVERS
Slipcovers are a cost-effective alternative to full reupholstery. Unlike store-bought covers that fit poorly, our slipcovers are measured, cut, and sewn in-house for a tailored fit. Options include:
- Full Sofa & Chair Slipcovers — Fitted or relaxed style. Custom-sewn to your piece’s exact dimensions.
- Sectional Slipcovers — Individual section covers that stay in place.
- Dining Chair Slipcovers — Full-length, seat-only, or parsons style.
- Outdoor Slipcovers — Sunbrella and outdoor-rated fabrics.
- Protective Slipcovers — For seasonal storage or pet protection.
WHEN TO REBUILD, REPLACE FOAM, OR ORDER A SLIPCOVER
Rebuild Cushions If:
- Foam is flat, compressed, or lumpy
- You sink too deep when sitting
- Cushions do not bounce back after standing up
- Foam is more than 5-8 years old
Order Slipcovers If:
- Frame and foam are still good but fabric is worn, stained, or outdated
- You want seasonal fabric changes
- You need pet or child protection
- Budget is tighter than full reupholstery

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can you just replace the foam without new covers?
Yes. If the covers are in good condition, we can unzip (or carefully open), replace the foam core, add Dacron wrap, and re-close. This is the most cost-effective cushion refresh.
How do I know if I need cushion rebuild vs. full reupholstery?
If the fabric/leather on the body of the sofa is in good shape and only the cushions are flat, a cushion rebuild is all you need. If the arms, back, and body fabric are worn too, full reupholstery makes more sense.
What foam density do I need?
For seat cushions: 2.0 lb/ft3 minimum. For back cushions: 1.8 lb/ft3 is usually sufficient. We advise based on your use case — a family room sofa used daily needs firmer foam than a rarely-used formal living room piece.
How long do new cushions last?
With proper-density foam (2.0+ lb): 7-10 years of daily use. With premium foam (2.5+ lb): 10+ years. Budget foam (1.5 lb) fails in 1-3 years.
Can you match my existing cushion shape exactly?
Yes. We use your existing cushions as templates (even if they are compressed) and cut new foam to the original dimensions. Tapered fronts, T-cushions, bullnose — all custom cut.
Do you ship cushions?
Yes. For cushion-only projects, we can ship finished cushions. Free delivery within LA and OC. Shipping outside the area quoted on request.
